Honey soy chicken is one of my favourite, easy to make, weeknight dinners! Great to make in large batches for entertaining, and tasty to enjoy with rice and Asian greens.
I’ve tried a couple of different recipes, but I’ve finally found the best combination of flavours for the marinade! This was inspired by the Honey Soy Chicken Drumsticks recipe from Delicious.
The 6 key ingredients needed for a rich and flavoursome honey soy marinade:
Ideally, you can leave the chicken to marinate overnight for richer flavours. Otherwise, 30 minutes is fine as well, because with this recipe you’ll also have a sauce to pour over the dish anyway.
Aside from preparing the marinade, it’s mostly hands-off because you leave the oven to work its magic in roasting the chicken!
By using the juices/leftover marinade, you can make a thick and tasty honey soy sauce to pour over your chicken before sprinkling with sesame seeds. Note that it’s quite strongly flavoured, so give it a taste before pouring it over everything!
Alongside the protein…you’ll need some complimentary veggies!
My favourite to go with honey soy chicken is my staple Asian greens mix.
I loooove Asian greens! I could probably eat them every night. Rich with flavours of hoisin, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil…I’m a fan of all kinds of combos.
For this side dish, I actually used a little of the honey soy chicken sauce to mix through the greens. It ended up being really tasty! However, you can use whatever combination of flavours you enjoy.
The base aromatics that I generally use when throwing together a quick Asian greens side dish are: garlic, ginger and a long red chilli. You can even serve with just these rather than adding any additional sauce!
Serve everything together!
Honey soy chicken, Asian greens, jasmine rice…voila Enjoy!
