Best backdrops for gorgeous baby milestone photos

20 September 2017 | By

New mums are taking millions of photos of their babies lying down on different blankets, crib sheets and playmats. Milestone photos are a highlight of every month, as parents dress up their little one in their cutest outfits and lie them with different toys, signs and backgrounds so they can take the perfect shots.

It’s a trend that’s not going away any time soon.

These brands have caught on to the rising popularity of this and so the “milestone blankets” movement was born, taking over the baby space of social media like wildfire.

From baby calendar blankets to personalised muslins, here are my favourite backdrops for those adorable milestone photos!

Lulujo’s “Baby’s First Year™” blanket and cards sets

Lulujo offers 5 super cute gift sets, each including a 100% cotton muslin blanket and 14 coordinating milestone cards. I’d find it too hard to pick just one to get – they’re all so sweet!

Pipsy milestone blankets

Pipsy feature a whole range of blankets that are personalised with your baby’s name, with so many designs to choose from (you can even customise the text colour). While most other milestone blankets on the market are actually muslin cloths, the Pipsy products use a high quality, super soft fleece as their choice of fabric making them extra comfy for your baby to lie on. These are probably my favourite!

Kiddo Kind milestone blankets

Kiddo Kind showcases 3 different cotton/bamboo muslin blankets. I particularly love the “Today I…” blanket – it’s a really cute way of recording those other type of milestones besides age!

You could also try making one yourself! Take a look this DIY baby milestone blanket from the Hallmark Channel. It seems quite simple to do and would definitely be a cheaper option as well.

Part of the fun of milestone blankets is coming up with crafty and creative ways of marking the milestones, whether you’re using toys, confetti, flowers, other props or an image editor overlay. Change it up each month, or keep a particular toy in every month’s shot so that you can really see your baby’s growth over time.

These milestone blankets would also make an absolutely perfect baby shower gift. If you’re getting a personalised one, just make sure the choice of name is definite! Otherwise the generic ones are super cute too.

Can you believe I don’t actually own a milestone blanket? I was so caught up in the postpartum whirlwind that I didn’t think to order one in time for Charles’ 1 month milestone But if I have another baby…I’m definitely getting my hands on one of these!

  1. Love all of these suggestions. We used a white blanket we had and made a floral wreath in a circle around our child each month.

  2. Love these! Hubby and I are planning on having baby #2 within the next year or two, and we didn’t really do this with our first child, so I’d love to be able to do it with our second!
