Dinners with HelloFresh

14 July 2017 | By

I’ve been on the hunt for healthy, delicious, easy to cook dinner options for during the week. Without a plan for weeknight dinners, it’s easy to fall into the easy options of just ordering takeaway, eating junk food, or relying on frozen meals. Now that we have a little baby, there’s even more incentive to be better organised and eat healthier!

This week I’ve decided to try out HelloFresh and their meal kits. I had heard about them for a while now and had also received a couple of discount cards, so figured I might as well put them to use and subscribe for their deliveries, even if it’s just for a few weeks to try it out!

HelloFresh delivers food boxes full of fresh ingredients with easy to follow recipes directly to your home each week. You can see what recipes are coming up a week in advance so you can opt out for the week if they don’t take your fancy. However, this week’s looked pretty good so I was keen to get started!

They deliver the boxes from 1am-7am on either Tuesday or Saturday mornings (depending on your preference). Mine arrived at around 5:30am this week and I received a text message notifying me that it was on my doorstep.

Luckily it’s been so chilly outside lately, because I didn’t end up bringing it inside until a couple of hours later when I managed to get myself out of bed and into the cold! I didn’t worry about it not staying fresh but if it was summer, it may have been a different story.

Inside were the ingredients for my meals for the week! I had opted for the 3 meal, 2 person Classic Box. You only need to provide a couple of ingredients yourself (milk, olive oil, salt and pepper, etc.) but everything else is supplied. It’s one of the things that appealed most to me about HelloFresh – the convenience of having all the right ingredients and portions ready to go.

I’ll post more about our dinners with HelloFresh throughout the week, including what my husband and I think about each in terms of quantity and flavour! He’s a little sceptical about this whole thing, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the cooking and meals turn out.

EDIT: check out the HelloFresh meals from this week!

  1. The vegetables look so fresh! This is a really great idea! In my house we struggle with different dinner ideas, or buying special ingredients for just one meal (the rest of which end up going to waste).

    1. Ahh I totally know what you mean about buying ingredients for just one meal and the rest not being used! Happens to me more often than I’d like to admit…

    1. You can opt out for a week (or more) if you don’t like what’s coming up on the menu. It seems to have enough variety to cater for most tastes though.

  2. I am approached by HelloFresh reps nearly everyday on my way to work. I’m glad to see this post because it’s something I’ve been considering. I can’t wait to hear what you think.

    1. Haha same with me, I have sooo many coupons from them! Figured I might as well try it out and see whether it’s actually worthwhile

  3. I’m curious to see what you think of all the meals. I do love that it comes packaged with almost everything you need. I keep thinking I’ll try one of these someday!

    1. I’ve posted my reviews of the dinners from this box! Super convenient, and the food actually ended up being quite tasty.

  4. I’m still on the fence about trying them. I keep hearing good things, though. I’m definitely going to be checking back to see what the final votes are. Keep us posted.

    1. Not sure how they compare to other similar boxes like Marley Spoon, but my experience so far has been pretty good!

    1. I actually really like the recipe cards that they supply – the photos of each step make it simpler to follow compared to regular recipes in my opinion.

    1. The convenience is great! Love not having to plan out exactly what ingredients are needed, going to the shops to get them, etc.

  5. Looks an interesting concept & the veggies look fresh! Seems so good when someone delivers things food required for the meal at doorstep & you have the ease to just pick them from outside..:)

    1. Right on the doorstep, couldn’t be easier And it was all packaged well to keep the ingredients cool and fresh.

    1. Check out my other posts about how the dinners turned out! I had the same feeling – wanted to try it at least once to see what all the fuss is about.

  6. Thanks for posting! I’ve been wondering about Hello Fresh or Blue Apron and sooooo many others that have popped up, but I never see any reviews. My biggest concern was not getting enough food, but this looks sufficient.

  7. I have to give this a try. I really like easy dinner and the idea of someone getting the ingredients to your door is so convenient.

  8. I am going to look into this! I must say that the vegetables look extremely fresh. I am glad that you shared this.

  9. This HelloFresh looks good, but unfortunately, it isn’t available here in Canada where I live. Since I am a vegetarian and like to eat fresh, I would love to try this when I am in the USA next.

    1. Ah they have a vegetarian box too! I imagine they’ll be spreading around to other countries soon enough…

  10. Wow this is convenient, a big help for our busy Moms and Dad especially if without help at home. Will share this to my friends!
