Going bananas for Banana Lovers Day

27 August 2017 | By

August 27th is Banana Lovers Day! 🍌

As a super fruit packed with the goodness of dietary fibre, potassium and vitamin C, it’s great for a quick and healthy snack on the go.

It’s also one of the cheapest fruits available all year round – there’s no excuse not to include it in your diet!

Here’s some inspiration for yummy things you can easily make with a bunch of bananas (overripe ones are even better!) – try out one of these 10 banana recipes for Banana Lovers Day:

1. Banana bread

The classic go-to when you have a bunch of overripe bananas needing to be used! Soft, moist and warm – enjoy a thick slice of banana bread on its own or with one of these:

  • dollop of Greek yoghurt
  • spread of almond or other nut butter
  • sliced banana and manuka honey

2. Caramelised banana upside-down cake

Decadence on a plate – just check out the glistening of that glaze! The caramel sweetness is to die for…

3. Banana chocolate chip oatmeal cookies

Can’t get much easier than using only 3 ingredients! Whip up a batch in less than 20 minutes, and enjoy them as a healthy snack with no added sugar (the more overripe the bananas, the sweeter they’ll be).

4. Banana blondies

Rich in flavour, with a delicious fudgy texture and smooth brown sugar frosting. Yum!

5. Banana pancakes

I love light and fluffy pancakes for breakfast – and this is a healthier alternative because rather than adding sugar, use the natural sweetness of the bananas instead! Top with fresh fruit and yoghurt (or maple syrup if you feel like indulging a little).

6. Banana ice cream

Who knew you could make soft serves using just bananas?! Super keen to give this one a go – the different flavour combinations are endless…

7. Banoffee pies

Banana + toffee = mouthwatering deliciousness. Make a big pie for sharing, or mini ones to savour individually.

8. Crispy banana fritters

From the crunch of the crispy, cinnamon coating…to the warm and sweet banana beneath…droolworthy.

Get the crispy banana fritters recipe from Oh Bite It.

9. Cinnamon banana muffins

With this one bowl recipe, it’s quick and easy to get a batch baking in the oven! Also great for freezing so you can save some for later (unless they’re all devoured before then…).

10. Strawberry banana smoothie bowl

Seriously, I could eat these thick and creamy smoothie bowls every day. It’s particularly fun to get creative with the toppings! Fresh or dried fruit, crunchy nuts or granola, chocolate bits…whatever takes your fancy.

  1. Yum, I love bananas cooked into baking. My kids go crazy for banana ice cream. I still can’t get over how good it tastes when the only ingredient is Banana! I always have a loaf of zucchini banana bread sliced up in the freezer. I can pop a slice in the toaster and top with peanut butter for a (somewhat) guilt free breakfast treat.
